Meme! And junk.

Hey guys! So, college is done. I don't really know what's up with life yet, but I'm taking it in stride.

Some neat things to note:

I'm currently working on a website that will host a webcomic I've been working on for the past, oh, seven frickin' years?!? I'm working on revamping Twisted Lime (you can read some of the comics in my gallery.) I'm really psyched about it. I've been letting some friends get a glance at the new comics side-by-side with the old ones, and all signs seems positive!

So here's a meme:

▶ What is the character you've drawn the most (Can be original or fanart)?
Jack. It's gotta be my baby Jack Vicious. I can't pinpoint how many times I've drawn him, but suffice to say, at least once a day for the past 5 years.

▶ What colour do you most often use?
Black and White, I love drawing with simple pen and ink. Usually there's red if I feel like adding a splash of blood.

▶ Any colour you are bad at using?
Almost all of them? I'm horrible with colors.

▶ When drawing people, where do you start?
I usually start with like a stick figure, with an oval for the head, rectangle for the body (or circles for girls) and triangles for the arms and legs.

▶ What is a character only your eraser will love?
I am always fucking up Kabil (at least his hair).

▶ Which of your works took the longest time?
This picture of a punk girl that I never finished. I still have the original photoshop file on my HD somewhere. I started it my freshman year and I thought it looked so cool, so I tried to work on it when I could between work and school. It was just too much and my style kept changing and I wasn't happy with it anymore.

▶ What techniques do you use when you want to improve in drawing?
I try to do life drawing, because there's no better way to improve than looking at the source. I study people's faces and look at their eyebrows and eyes and nose twitches and smirks and stuff like that to get the right emotion for the right moment.

▶ What art tools/media are you good with?
I'm okay with pens, I think. I'd like to get better with nibs and watercolour.

▶ Art tools/media you are bad at?
I'm not too hot with paint. I used to be passable until high school art happened and I started being critiqued like CRAZY. I made the mistake of giving up after senior year and never really picked up a brush during college.

▶ What do you think about your own art?
I think it has expression and style, but little things seem to change every frame. Like the placement of the features on a character's face, their hair length, the shoulder broadness and body shape and stuff like that. It annoys me and I need to get better at it.

▶ Do you consult magazines for your drawings?
Yes! I love buying rock and skater magazines for my action poses.

▶ What do you like about your art?
I like the idea of the story being told through the comic and stuff. It's like seeing a raw movie edit when you see a character with a speech bubble saying something important.

▶ What habits do you have while drawing?
Loud music. Or a boring movie I have memorized. Anything too interesting and I'm distracted. If I'm drawing with a tablet, I keep my computer as close to me as possible for text shortcuts. With paper, I tend to move my face obsessively close to the pen making contact with the paper.

▶ Are you good at drawing faces facing right?
It's the same as facing left, I guess. I don't have much trouble.

▶ How frequently do you draw?
Everyday, for the most part. I try to make a point to at least draw a doodle.

▶ What do you do when you have artist's block?
I lock myself in my room and weep. Usually drawing block goes away after a week or so. Or I'll give myself a new character to draw for a few weeks or so before going back to my oldies.

▶ What must you have when you draw?
Um. Paper and pencils. I can draw on pretty much anything with anything. I like having a prompt. If I need to, I like asking people "What should I draw?" and they usually reply with something like "Draw SoandSo doing blah with Whatsername!"

▶ Do you have a lot of stray lines (messy lineart)?
My penwork is usually pretty clean.

▶ What is drawing to you?
It's what I am. I've always been "The one that draws". People aren't surprised that as an adult I want to be an animator and comic book artist.

▶ Your goal from now on:
To have better bodies, better backgrounds, more character, more interesting stories.

▶ Artists you've had influence from?
Friiiick. Well, I wish I could draw like animated Disney classics/Dreamworks/Bluth style, but it's not really the case. People say my style has Brian Lee O'Mally influences. I really like Christy Lijewski and Becky Cloonan. And I adore Gabriel Ba and Vasilis Lolos.

▶ Artists you like?
Fuuuuuuuck. I really can't list them all. But the mainstays are the ones above.

▶ Which is easier to draw, humans or animals?
It depends on the animal. I feel pretty confident drawing cartoon cats and dogs, but I draw cartoon humans more often.

▶ Please tell us the title(s) of your own comic(s)
A Twist of Lime (graphic novel incarnation in high school), Twisted Lime (same story, done in comic strip for for college paper), A Twisted Line (the current rewrite that I'm working on now). TDL Second Generation (where the Twisted Line characters have babies who grow up). Mari & Tross and VICE (both collabs with Demon).

▶ Show us an old picture
Ummmm... Most of my oldest stuff I keep online here on Devart.
:thumb17490618:
This is a redonkulously old picture of Edward Scissorhands I drew a billion years ago that I hid away in scraps to forget about forever and I think it's one of my most fav'd piece in all my posts.

▶ What is the charm-point of your art?
Um. I honestly don't know. I think it can be funny. Most of the stuff I post here is me dicking around.

▶ What is the first thing you would draw if we're talking about fantasy?
I guess a pretty elf princess warlock creature thing.

▶ Please draw your most beloved character:
I draw them everyday and they're plastered all over my DA.

▶ When thinking of characters is it mostly female? male? or androgynous/no sex?
I draw mostly men, but I love drawing women. The curves are fun, and sometimes it's a nice break to draw a cute, sexy pose.

▶ What did you draw yesterday?
Um... I think I drew a doodle of Namor with a hurt fish in his hands. I was trying to make him have a sensitive side.

▶ What is the funnest part to draw?
I LOVE drawing faces. Especially awkward moments where the characters. I have a very awkward sense of humor, so my characters usually look confused.

▶ What part of other people's drawings do you notice first?
Linework, face structure/details, what the characters are wearing, the emotional content of the piece.

▶ Regarding backgrounds, what is your method of making it easier to draw?
I usually take a picture and trace. It's totally a cop-out. But since my characters don't really life anywhere fantastical, it's a little legit.

▶ What colour coordinations do you like?
Really bright obnoxious colors. I'm so bad with color, I usually try to purposely combine bleeding eye hues to make it seem like I made it look horrible on purpose.

▶ What character did you last draw?
Ummm... Aquaman. I drew him today playing wit ha family of angel fish.

▶ Does your style change easily?
It does. I'm always looking for something to make my characters more interesting and neat.

▶ What part of drawing do you pay most attention to?
The faces, to make sure that their emotions match the tone of the moment.

▶ How do you feel about drawing H pictures?
I AM SO RANCID BAD AT DRAWING SEX. The closest I got was a vague they-might-be-doing-it-who-knows picture of Namor and Aquaman, a what-the-fuck-our-we-doing moment between Zachary and Jack, and a hot bedroom scene between two ladies.

▶ Do you like criticism from others?
Yeah, of course I do. I almost never get it through and it'd be nice for something like 'That body action doesn't match the moment' or 'wtf were you thinking when you drew this you should be shot.'
